Cable subscribers are paying the franchise fees for (PEG)

Local Educational Access on Spectrum SMPTE color bar does not meet 📺 895.4 Minimum standards for public, educational and governmental (PEG) access. The City of Kingston and Towns are collecting revenue from the cable franchise fees over 1/2 million dollars from the cable subscribers, and doesn't direct any funds to the public access station.

City of Kingston Board and Commission Meetings Return to Virtual

KINGSTON, NY – Mayor Steven T. Noble has announced that, due to the growing number of Covid cases in our area, City of Kingston Board and Commission meetings will be held virtually going forward. 

Last week, Governor Hochul signed legislation extending virtual access to public meetings under New York State's Open Meetings Law, which allows residents to virtually participate in local government meetings. The extension will be in effect until January 15, 2022. City of Kingston Boards and Commissions will now have the ability to meet remotely, as long as proper notice is given and the meeting is recorded and electronic transcripts are made available. 

 “At this time, I encourage all of our Boards and Commissions to meet remotely whenever possible,” said Mayor Noble. “I have not yet heard what the Common Council plans to do, but I am sure we will be updated by the Council President in the near future.” Updated meeting information will be posted on the homepage calendar on the City’s website: https://kingston-ny.gov/.

This is the second time this year that the beach has closed On July 22: Swimming at Kingston Point Beach is currently prohibited due to river water quality per the Ulster County Department of Health.

(Kingston, NY) – The Institute for Family Health held a ground breaking today for a new community health center in Midtown Kingston. Assemblyman Kevin Cahill was on hand, along with Senator Michelle Hinchey, Mayor Steve Noble and a representative for County Executive Pat Ryan. Institute Chief Executive Officer Neil Calman, MD, opened the event with a brief history of the grounds and background on the development of the new center. In particular, he credited significant private funding for the facility from the Novo Foundation in advancing the project. In attendance and recognized by Dr. Calman was Peter Buffett on behalf of Novo. Also recognized was the late Congressman, Maurice D. Hinchey, Mid Hudson Family Practice founders, Doctors Norman Burg and Dave Mesches, Dr. Mark Josefski and Dr. Walter Woodley and Dr. Marta Sanchez, who will be the Director of the new center. 

“For over 40 years, the Institute for Family Health has been making a tremendous difference in the health and well-being of the people of our region. The leading organization training family practice physicians outside of a large metropolitan hospital setting, the Institute has graduated over 200 primary care doctors and treated hundreds of thousands of local patients. With this new facility, their outreach will expand, more people will have access to care and our community will be further enriched. While buildings are surely important, more than anything else, we look to the doctors and caregivers dedicated to provide quality care,” said Cahill. 

Institute for Family Health operates six locations in the Hudson Valley and several more in New York City where they provide a range of services from prenatal to palliative health care to over 80,000 people a year. The organization treats those without regard to the source or ability to pay and many patients arrive at their doorstep with no insurance at all. 

“The doctors and health care professionals at the Institute are truly on the mission to providing top quality health care to all who need it. I am proud to be a long time partner with these extraordinary caregivers and salute their continued effort assure that these services are available to all. The generous donation of the premises by area physician practices and the collaboration between the Novo Foundation and the Institute for Family Health has made it possible expand that access to the very center of Kingston,” concluded Cahill.

Kingston won't host Fourth of July celebration

The City of Kingston will not be able to host our annual Fourth of July celebration this year.

Summer Smith, Director Communications & Community Engagement said The most recent Covid rules precluded mass gatherings, and were lifted too late for us to host such a large scale event. We do look forward to many other wonderful community events this summer like the Soap Box Derby, Hooley, Stockade Faire, Italian Festival, and many others that are able to happen now that the event restrictions have been lifted.

Roadwork Update: City of Kingston, NY.

ROADWORK UPDATE: construction crews for work on the Midtown Linear Park trail will be working on Cornell Street crossing today - Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23 and then will move to O'Neil Street on Thursday, June 24 and Friday, June 25. There will be flaggers for traffic control with lane closures throughout the day.

Memorial Day Ceremony Sunday, May 30, 2021 at 1 PM

KINGSTON, N.Y. – The Kingston Veterans Association will host a Memorial Day ceremony on the lawn at City Hall (420 Broadway) at 1:00pm and will then have a tree dedication on the front lawn of Kingston High School for Kingston's World War II veterans. There will be no parade this year.

Mayor Noble's 2021 State of the City Address

KINGSTON, NY – Mayor Steven T. Noble delivered his annual State of the City Address, titled Recover, Rebuild, Reimagine, at the Common Council meeting on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. 

 “Typically my State of the City speech would include a long list of accomplishments from each City department, touting our successes and planning for the year ahead,” said Mayor Noble. “After the year we had, I didn’t want to recite a checklist of municipal achievements. Instead, I wanted to thank the Kingston community for their perseverance. I wanted to talk about what each person in our community sacrificed. And ask that we reflect on the path to recovery, the road to rebuilding, and together reimagine all that Kingston can be.
